Whispering Oaks Nudist Resort

Naturism in the United States: laws and customs →
Clothing optional

A historic Michigan nudist resort, running since 1963, set in an oak wood in Oxford, about forty minutes north of Detroit. At its centre are a recently resurfaced 20x40-foot heated pool, a hot tub in a glassed-in room, the sauna and a clubhouse with pool table, table tennis, darts and a dance floor; the season's calendar is packed with poker nights, dances, potlucks and happy hours. Outside, there is a spring-fed lake ("Ripple Lake") with canoes, kayaks, pedal boats and catch-and-release fishing, a sunbathing lawn, tennis and pickleball courts, pétanque and woodland trails. You can stay on RV sites with hook-ups, in a tent or in one of the rental units: the rooms of the "Bare Lodge" above the clubhouse, trailers and other units. The rules let you choose whether to be clothed or nude, but ask that the recreational facilities be used nude, and swimsuits are banned in the pool and hot tub. Open from mid-April to early October; no restaurant, you bring your own food. Single men are admitted but must phone on the same day after 9 a.m. before turning up, and pay a higher day rate. Dogs are allowed on a lead, but not in common areas. It is an AANR-affiliated club, with members who are mostly couples and families.
