South Canterbury Sun Club

Small, member-run family naturist club founded in 1971, in the Orari Gorge among the hills of the South Canterbury countryside (South Island, New Zealand), affiliated to the New Zealand Naturist Federation. The grounds, surrounded by tall hedges and fields, are sheltered and quiet: you hear little besides birds and farm animals. The clubhouse is a converted old country school, with a communal kitchen for groups. There is an unheated pool (summer use, no swimwear), a tennis court (also marked for mini-tennis), a pétanque piste (bring your own boules) and lawns where kubb is played in summer. Accommodation includes a block with two rooms (a double bed in one, bunk bed + single bed + camp bed in the other, linen included), as well as powered sites for caravans/motorhomes and plenty of space for tents. Outside the pool nudity is not imposed: everyone undresses at their own pace, although the club encourages it. Nearby there is a river for swimming, walks and fishing; Geraldine is 15 minutes away. The club welcomes singles, men and women, same-sex or mixed couples and families, and day visits are also open to people new to naturism; booking is always required (phone/text a day ahead, because nobody lives on site).
