Max's Garden is a small naturist campsite set in a separate, fenced area within Washington Caravan & Camping Park, at the foot of the South Downs (West Sussex), just off the A24 roundabout near Washington, between Horsham, Brighton and Worthing. It is run by Mark and Karen; there are around ten grass pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, with electric hook-up for a fee, and a static caravan used as a facilities block and kitchen (WC, sink, microwave). The heart of the place is the "bubble", a large heated polytunnel with artificial grass, tropical plants, sofas, a small heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and shower: it is what makes it possible to visit out of season too, and it is what guests appreciate most. The atmosphere is openly family-friendly and informal, prices per person/night are very low, and the gate has a code; the whole site can be hired by private groups and it hosts weekends for naturist clubs (Millbank Sun Club, Suntreckers). Opinion is unanimous on the tranquillity, the hosts' hospitality and the friendliness among "like-minded" guests; the few reservations concern details (showers on the other side of the campsite, pool heating under maintenance, TV reception). Worth knowing: the official website has not been updated since 2019 and the new domain maxsgarden.net is still "coming soon", so it is best to phone; some report that road noise can be heard. Suited to those looking for a small, sociable and relaxed base not far from London and the coast; not to those who want wide open spaces or holiday-village facilities.
