Laguna del Sol

One of the largest clothing optional resorts in the United States: 250 acres of lawns and trees near Sacramento, built around Lake Archie, a 25-acre lake with a pier, an island reached by a bridge, and pedal boats and canoes available to guests. Three separate pool areas (one with a water volleyball court), a well-equipped gym, two tennis courts, six pickleball courts, a lakeside restaurant open at weekends and a lounge with music on Fridays and Saturdays. Almost all the tent and RV sites are on the lakeshore; you can also stay in rooms and in park models with kitchens. Clothing is optional everywhere except in the pool areas, where nudity is required, and first-time visitors take an orientation tour. Opinions agree on beautifully kept grounds and a peaceful community, but also on a character closer to a private residential community than a resort: many permanent residents, established cliques, a mostly older clientele and a front-desk welcome often described as cold. Facilities and accommodation are showing their age: anyone expecting hotel standards may be disappointed.
