Drakes Ridge Rustic Nudist Retreat

Naturism in the United States: laws and customs →
Naturist (policy unspecified)

A small, rustic naturist retreat open since 1964 in the wooded hills of Switzerland County, in south-eastern Indiana, near the Kentucky border. It is a deliberately spartan and secluded place that makes peace and quiet its hallmark: dense woodland, trails, a small lake for fishing and boating, a creek, tent and RV sites scattered among the trees and a few cabins for rent, with the rule that music and videos are for headphones only. Social life revolves around the clubhouse, with a shared kitchen, communal meals, board games and a stage, and around the pool with its sunbathing lawn; outside there is a volleyball court, basketball, cornhole and a children's play area. The club expects those who visit to undress when the weather allows and does not consider swimsuits or underwear appropriate attire; nudity in the pool is compulsory for everyone, while newcomers are given time to get used to it. Photography is forbidden without explicit permission. Single visitors are admitted, with rates for singles and a room for rent for one person. Recent stays mention present and friendly owners, well-kept grounds and great tranquillity; those looking for entertainment or a large, young community may find it too quiet. Be careful with access: take the road from the paved side, as satnavs lead onto steep dirt roads.
