Naturism in Norway: laws and customs →
Clothing optional

Naturist centre on the island of Jeløya, 7 km from Moss, overlooking the Oslofjord: about five hectares of meadows and woodland sloping down to the sea, with a small beach, a bathing jetty and a raft. It has existed since 1980 and is a members' cooperative, kept running partly through volunteer work days. There are 51 permanent caravan pitches and room for guests in motorhomes, caravans or tents (some hang a hammock between the trees near the beach), four cabins and a few rooms in the centre's old houses. You don't need to be a member of Sjøhaug: to stay more than two nights, a membership card from a naturist association affiliated to the Norwegian federation or to INF is enough, and it can also be obtained online through one of the Norwegian associations, while for a short stay you come in as a paying guest. The rates also include a pitch for a small tent and two single rooms. Nudity is the norm when weather and health permit, and it is compulsory on the sun terrace, at the jetty, on the raft, in the sauna and in the showers; just outside the barrier, you get dressed. Life is very communal: beach volleyball every afternoon in high season, pétanque, a shared barbecue, the sauna fired up in the evening followed by a dip in the fjord, plus a playground and a floating trampoline for children. Those who have stayed appreciate the location and the welcome; some mention little flat ground for tents, somewhat dated facilities and a party night with loud music until late into the night. Dogs are allowed in tents, caravans and some rental units.
