Hotel El Refugio (nudista naturista opcional)

Uruguay's first naturist hotel, in Chihuahua, the seaside neighbourhood between Punta Ballena and Punta del Este that looks out onto the country's only official naturist beach. It is a small place — six rooms, plus a few new apartments with kitchenettes built closer to the sea — where nudity is optional and, as the management is keen to point out, experienced without sexual connotations. The day revolves around the pool in the garden: there is a restaurant with a bar, breakfast is included and the bread is homemade, special diet menus can be requested, and guests arriving by plane are picked up at Punta del Este airport, five minutes away by car. Rooms and apartments have air conditioning, a private bathroom and a terrace; wi-fi and parking are free. It is an adults-only property — bookings can only be made in the name of adults — listed as LGBTQ+ friendly, with rates that drop considerably for long stays: up to twenty percent off for stays of more than a month.
