On the island of Björkö, in the archipelago north of Gothenburg, lies Sweden's second-oldest naturist site: the Göteborgs Friluftsförening, founded in 1936, bought this land in 1938. It was here, in the summer of 1958, that the Swedish naturist federation was founded. It covers almost six hectares owned collectively by the members, with around twenty private houses, about ten caravans and two cabins for rent, plus caravan pitches. There is a communal house, a sauna and a barbecue area; the grounds are looked after together, on the shared work days that mark the rhythm of the season. The association's stated aim is simple: sunbathing and sea bathing without clothes, for the whole family. Becoming a member takes patience — three years of regular visits, taking part in the work and a reference from a member — but to stay, all you need is to book one of the cabins or a pitch. Like the other historic Swedish club, this one also keeps restrictions on alcohol and tobacco.
