Naturism in Sweden: laws and customs →
Naturist (policy unspecified)

Sweden's oldest naturist association, founded in 1932, has its grounds at Återvall on the island of Ingarö, in the Stockholm archipelago. Five hectares on the shore of Lake Återvallsträsket, with its own beach, a communal house, a wood-fired sauna and around forty cabins of fifteen to twenty square metres built by the members, some of which are available to rent. The idea behind the place lies in its motto: simplicity, nudity and sobriety. The cabins have neither electricity nor running water, the grounds are closed to cars and children can roam freely. There are playing fields, rowing boats and a sailboard; the highlight of the year is the midsummer celebration. It is a club, not a commercial campsite: you come as a member or as a member's guest. It is worth knowing where that sobriety comes from: in 1967 the association left the Swedish federation precisely because the federation had abolished the obligation to abstain from alcohol and tobacco, and the rule still applies.
